The weather is changing and Fall has snuck up on us once again. Do you have your boiler ready? Refresh your memory by reviewing your owners manual once again and perform the following maintenance recommendations before cold weather is in full force.
WATER: Check your water level and add water as necessary. Remove any air from the system using a bleeder valve. Turn on circulation pump and let water circulate for 2 (two) days. Inspect all connections in your system for leaks. Do not fire your boiler until it is filled with water and never fill your boiler with softened water.
CHIMNEY: Remove the bucket/cover you placed over the chimney cap to keep rain out. Be sure the chimney is free and clear of any debris and perform necessary cleaning.
WOOD: Start your first fire. Be sure you are burning properly seasoned wood. Crown Royal Stoves recommends a moisture level under 25%. Use a moisture meter to check your moisture levels. Contact your local dealer to purchase one. Too much moisture can cause serious damage to your wood boiler.
After your boiler fire is at temp, ensure that all components are operating correctly.
Remember, regular maintenance throughout the heating season will give you years of trouble-free service from your boiler. We wish you a warm heating season!
